Reader, I married her...
This is one of the few pictures of my wife, Mary-Lou, known to exist.
Despite several years spent trying to give her the slip via relocation to
Oxford and then, when she moved to Bedford, Manchester, we finally got
married on 22nd April 2000 in Milborne Port, Somerset:
"I love the ground under his feet,
and the air over his head,
and everything he touches,
and every word he says.
I love all his looks, and all his actions,
and him entirely and altogether."
-- Mary-Lou's wedding speech (from Wuthering Heights by Emily
Brontë)
Amazing facts about Mary-Lou
- She likes purple.
- Yes, she is named after that Rick Nelson song.
- She was Courier editor
at Aberystwyth from 1993-4, during which time she completely violated all
principles of editorial independence and good taste by publishing (almost)
all my articles.
- Her feet are sometimes colder than most thermometers will register.
However, the "touch test" yields a reading of "Yeeaaarrrrghhhh!
Gerr'em off me!!"
- Her passage through life is marked by a trail of used tissues.
- She indulges my tragic obsessions. Did
your wife buy you a trip on the Settle & Carlisle for your
birthday?
- Don't forget the purple thing.
- Occasionally, she has been known to be wrong about
something.
- Despite an incredibly successful track record when it comes to
selecting interior decor and furnishings, she also likes black leather
pouffes.
- She is a distant descendant of the Pied Piper of Hamlyn; small
children (and duvets) are often drawn to her by an irresistible force of
attraction and find themselves pinned helplessly to her side.
- She thinks George Clooney's best feature is his elbows.
- She likes Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
The Simpsons, the works
of Charles Rennie Mackintosh,
Pre-Raphaelite and
Art Nouveau art, Stephen Fry, Julian Clary,
Harry Potter,
Labyrinth, chocolate and
cats. She believes in
republicanism,
social justice and
God.
- You can email
her.
- Did I mention that she likes purple?
