The considerate passenger's guide
To enhance general comfort and convenience when using the Manchester Metrolink tram service at peak
times, please bear the following advice in mind:
- When waiting to board the tram, allow existing passengers to exit
easily by giving them a clear path on to the platform. Do not try to enter
the vehicle before others have left it.
- Avoid blocking the doorway after entering or leaving the tram, either
within the vehicle or on the platform. If possible, find a place that
does not obstruct the entrance.
- When standing, move as far down the central aisle as possible to
provide space for others behind you and avoid overcrowding in the
vestibule area. If you are not travelling far, try to find a space in the
vestibule that does not obstruct the aisle or door, and allow others to
move past you.
- Use the provided handholds and rails when the vehicle is starting
or stopping, as the motion may otherwise cause you to lose your footing.
- Always use vacated seats or offer them to someone else nearby, as
this will provide additional space for those who are standing.
- Remove rucksacks and other large bags before entering the vehicle,
and place them between your feet once onboard to avoid injury or
obstruction to others.
- When the vehicle is crowded, be patient on reaching your stop and
avoid pushing past others if they too are likely to leave at the same
stop.
- When additional space becomes available due to others leaving the
vehicle, consider moving position to allow more room for others nearby.
- In damp, hot or humid conditions (which often occur during wet
weather), consider opening a window to aid ventilation. Unless
causing personal discomfort, please do not close windows that are already
open in these circumstances.
By following these simple rules, you will help to improve travel
conditions for yourself and others, and lessen the impact of overcrowding.
If you feel that this advice is inappropriate or unnecessary, you may want
to consider alternative forms of transport such as walking, cycling or
motoring.
