Thanks for the helpful information.  Here's some in return.

The Sony  SDT-9000 drive is still manufactured for SGI and LaCie as an OEM
product and for Sony resellers.  Information on the drive is available at

It's a SCSI 1.2Mb/sec drive for high speed transfers (4X I think!)

The drives can be purchased at CompuPlus, Inc. www.compuplusinc.com

The drives cost around $500 and are available in 5.25 and 3.5 inch internal
bay or external.  The firmware is correct also, since CompuPlus uses them to
make custom SGI computers.
